Penalty area and goal area dimensions
The penalty area begins 16.5 m (18 yd) from the inside of each goalpost and extends 16.5 m into the field. The smaller goal area begins 5.5 m (6 yd) from each post and extends the same distance forward. The penalty mark sits 11 m (12 yd) from the midpoint of the goal.
These fixed markings matter for filming as well as officiating. A camera placed near halfway with enough elevation can use the penalty boxes as reliable visual anchors when checking framing and zoom.
Why youth fields are smaller
Small-sided football reduces running distances and gives developing players more touches. Field size, goal size, ball size and team numbers usually increase by age group. Exact formats are controlled locally, so coaches should confirm the current competition handbook before line-marking or setting up a match.
