The box score separates offensive and defensive rebounds because they affect possessions differently. An offensive rebound creates another scoring chance; a defensive rebound lets the team transition to offence.

A rebound total hides missed assignments. Review every shot and note whether all five defenders made contact or protected a space. A teammate may collect the statistic only because another player executed the box-out.
On offence, identify whether the team sends players to the glass or prioritises transition defence. The right decision depends on role, shot location and the coach's system.
