There is no single set of markings used by every basketball competition. International basketball follows FIBA specifications, while the NBA uses its own court and equipment rules. Community venues may carry several coloured line sets for different leagues.
When measuring a court, use the inside edge of the boundary lines. The playable dimensions do not include spectator space, benches, score tables or the safety run-off around the floor.

Why courts often show several line colours
Multi-sport venues may accommodate basketball, netball, volleyball, futsal and badminton. Basketball itself may have older and newer three-point arcs or modified junior markings. Players and officials should identify the active boundary, key and three-point line during warm-up.
A camera view from near halfway should include both corners, the near sideline and enough height to see player spacing through the key. Test the actual marked court rather than relying on the building's apparent centreline.
Junior and half-court formats
Youth programs may shorten the court, lower the baskets or use modified free-throw distances to suit development. Half-court 3x3 also has its own markings and game rules. Local competition regulations—not the senior diagram—determine the correct setup.
- Confirm which line colour is active before the game.
- Keep tripods and cables outside the run-off area.
- Do not block score-table sightlines or team benches.
- Allow for players and officials moving beyond the boundary at speed.
